First Presbyterian Church of
Eustis Center Street Kitchen
John 6 verses 1-15 recounts
the miracle of Jesus feeding 5,000 people from a small
boy’s lunch of five barley loaves and two small fish.
Do you know that this miracle is repeated every Friday
at the First Presbyterian church of Eustis?
The Center Street Kitchen was started August 7, 2009 by
Dr. Charles (Chuck) Broadway. Dr. Broadway has a
passion for cooking and wanted to do something proactive
to help the large number of local residents who have
been devastated by financial or personal hardship.
The Kitchen prepares and serves lunch every Friday from
11:00 AM until 12:30 PM. Some days, the volunteers
arrive as early as 7:00 AM to start the preparations.
Everyone is welcome and no pressure is put on anyone to
do anything except enjoy a time of good food and
companionship. Starting with 6 meals, the Kitchen now
serves an average of 60-80 meals a week. The Friday
after Thanksgiving the Kitchen served 110 meals.
The
food for the Kitchen comes almost totally from
donations. The outpouring of support from Church
members and the community in the form of money, food and
volunteer service has been inspiring. Thanks to
Waterman Village, unused food has been donated which has
greatly added to the supply. In recent months, clothes
donations have been added and a free clothes closet has
been offered to the needy.
Currently, the Kitchen has enough food and volunteers to
add a second day. In addition, there are plans to add
delivered meals to the homebound.
If you would like to
volunteer, please contact the church office or submit
the Center Street Kitchen volunteer form below.
