"The Story of Easter" | from April 4th to May 16th
Throughout His earthly life, Jesus told His disciples and others what He was doing; however, divine hints of what was to come were not limited only to Christ’s years on earth. God had always been telling God's people what Jesus was going to do. Even now, Jesus tells us what He is going to do in our lives and in our community. He tells us the what [continue to save sinners] and the how [using us and our work in the midst of this world] because of why [God's love for us!]
Easter Sunday, April 4th
"The Cliff-hanger" | Mark 16: 1-8
Let us acknowledge that "Christ is Risen" that Christ is "Risen Indeed." We will do this throughout the season of Easter until we reach Pentecost! We are going to do this because Easter is more than a day or a season, Easter is a way of life, an estate of being!
Did you know that some scholars argue that the Gospel according to Mark ends in chapter sixteen verse eight, which means that Mark would have the biggest, deepest, most driving cliff-hanger ever! Would this drive you crazy, annoyed or excited and eager?
In his story of the resurrection, Mark models the work of a great dramatist: a cliff-hanger. Cliff-hangers leave us with more questions than answers and increase our hunger to see the next episode. In this cliff-hanger, we find clues to the truth, just as God leaves clues to the truth in our world: his people living lives differently than the world. And those clues speak to the ultimate truth: Jesus Christ has been raised from the dead, just as He promised, "the Mark of Jonah."
