I wish you a fulfilling and fun summer. Nancy and I are out of here. Yes, summer is upon us and we are heading to North Carolina, to Nancy’s Nook, where a passel of birds, a herd of deer, and a raccoon named Wade await us. It's our summer retreat, where I work all day and Nancy lounges by the pool. As many of you know, I am building a house there—not having a house built, but building it. Nancy will gladly show you pictures.
My summer days are pretty much the same day in and day out, with the exception of Sunday mornings spent within the walls of the Littleton Presbyterian Church in Littleton, NC. I wake around 4:30, fill the feeders, grab a cup of coffee, and wait for the deer to join me—my breakfast club, a herd of six or more (once twelve came visiting). After breakfast, I’ll drive Nancy to the pool and start the daily construction project; looks like block work this summer. Around 2 pm, I’ll pick Nancy up for her post-pool nap, eat lunch, watch the birds enjoying the feeders, and go back to work.

My summer nights are pretty much in a rut as well. After dinner, I plan for tomorrow, read a little, watch the sun go down, and wait... for Wade. Yes, a raccoon named Wade. Most nights, I sit in my chair reading and waiting for Wade. He usually shows up around 9:00 or so and climbs up on my lap to eat Ritz Crackers with me. Ask me sometime; I have video.
So that’s my summer in a nutshell, well, except for the part where I take a week off to participate in the local VBS put on by a group of churches in Littleton.
Which brings me to my request: if you get bored or have time to spare, how about taking my place in FPCE’s VBS?

They could always use another set of hands, or another body, or maybe a little support.
Also, if you really feel inclined to do me a favor, hide the goldfish and bring a kid-approved snack. You’ll have to ask Mel or Shannon about that.
Friends, I hope summer finds its way into your heart, and I leave you with my prayers that God will enrich your days until I see you once again in August.
Yours in Christ,
Edward J. Kirkland
