New Sermon Series on the book of Jonah. We are calling it "Beyond the Fish, Niniveh and the Worm." This is Sermon Numero Uno! lol -- Title of the first lesson is “In a Time Like This.” We read and explored Jonah 1:1-17 -- This chapter isn’t just about Jonah’s disobedience or even the big fish; it’s about how Jonah intended to keep God’s grace for those he deemed worthy. We often do the same as Christians, judging and selecting who we believe deserves God’s grace. Yet, in this chapter, we see how God, in the midst of everything, chooses to reveal His grace to the Gentiles.
While Jonah fled to Tarshish, attempting to escape God’s command to preach to Nineveh, the violent storm that ensued prompted the experienced sailors to recognize the supernatural nature of their predicament. They sought help from their gods, who were ultimately dead and ultimately identified Jonah (Casting Lots) as the source of their trouble. When eventually Jonah was thrown overboard (Not the first reaction), the storm calmed, leading the sailors to offer sacrifices and make vows to Yahweh, acknowledging His greatness and promising faithfulness.
This moment transforms the narrative. Before Paul’s mission to the Gentiles, God was already reaching out to them directly through this encounter. The sailors’ faith journey demonstrates that God’s grace is not limited by our judgments or prejudices. It’s a powerful reminder that God’s grace extends far beyond our expectations, reaching those we might overlook or deem unworthy.
As I reflected on Jonah's reluctance, I recognized parallels in our lives. How often do we hesitate to share God’s love with those we deem undeserving? We must remember that God's grace knows no boundaries and is meant for everyone. Just as the sailors took the message of God’s grace with them, we are called to share that same message wherever we go.

Questions for Reflection:
1. In what ways do we restrict God’s grace in our own lives?
2. How can we learn about our faith from the sailors’ response to the storm?
3. Are there specific groups or individuals we struggle to share our faith with, and why?
Life Application:
Think about a time you hesitated to share your faith due to fear. How can you push past that hesitation and boldly proclaim God’s grace moving forward?
Key Takeaways:

- Boundless Grace: God’s grace is for everyone, regardless of our judgments.
- Our Mission: We are called to be messengers of this grace in every corner of our lives.
This message isn’t just about Jonah; it’s a reminder of the incredible opportunities we have to share the love of God with the world around us. Let us pay attention to the grace of God that has led Him to be patient with us, even to this day, and embrace our calling to be vessels of His grace!
