Loving Our Church into Tomorrow
A gentle invitation to participate
Our Session has agreed to have First Presbyterian Church of Eustis participate in a doctoral research project led by Rev. Shawn J. Smith, titled Loving Your Church into Tomorrow.
This study is part of Shawn’s doctoral work through Asbury Theological Seminary and focuses on how congregations navigate, survive, and heal after seasons of trauma—such as the pandemic, leadership transitions, or prolonged tension—and how God leads churches faithfully into what comes next.
We are seeking 10–12 volunteer participants from our congregation. Those who participate will be invited to:
Complete a brief online church life questionnaire
Take part in four and a half hours of on-site workshops held at our church
Optionally participate in a follow-up focus group
The workshops are scheduled to begin in soon and conclude by the end of February.
This study is not about blame or reopening old wounds. Its emphasis is on celebrating resilience, discerning where God has been faithful, and learning practical tools for healing and growth as we look toward the future God is shaping for our church. Participation is confidential, voluntary, and designed with care and respect for each person’s story.
If you are curious, prayerfully interested, or would simply like to learn more, the Session has an invitation letter available for you to read.
📅 Deadline to sign up: Sunday, January 25📧 To express interest or ask questions, contact:Rev. Shawn Smith – shawn.smith@northlakepc.org
Thank you for being part of a congregation willing to reflect honestly, trust God deeply, and love the Church into tomorrow.
