"Jesus with us: More Than We Expected"
During this past season of Lent, our church family—children and adults alike—participated in a simple yet meaningful invitation: to draw what it looks like to believe that Jesus is with us. What emerged was more than artwork. It was testimony. It was theology expressed in color, imagination, memory, and hope.
At the time, I did not know how these drawings would be used. I simply trusted the moment as a gift. Now, as we enter these three Sundays together, I see clearly: this is not just a creative exercise—it is a shared witness of faith.
After eight years of preaching, and many Sundays standing before you, I found myself asking a familiar question: What more is there to say? And yet, the answer continues to surprise me—
there is always more. Because the gospel is never done with us. Jesus continues to meet us, form us, and reveal Himself in ways we did not expect.
This three-week sermon series will be shaped not only by Scripture, but also by the faithful imagination of this congregation. Each week, we will place these drawings alongside the Word of God and listen together for what the Spirit is saying.
April 12 – “Jesus in the Middle of It”
Scriptures: Mark 4:35–41 (Jesus Calms the Storm), Revelation 21:4 (God Wipes Every Tear)Paintings: The Battle Within, The Gentle Healer
We begin with honesty. Life is not always calm, predictable, or easy. These drawings reveal a Jesus who meets us in chaos, who is not afraid of our struggles, and who draws near to comfort and restore.
April 19 – “Jesus Walks With Us” (Easter Sunday)
Scripture: Luke 24:13–35 (The Road to Emmaus)Paintings: Follow Me, The Tree of Life, The Living Christ
On Easter, we celebrate not only that Christ is risen, but that He remains present. These images remind us that Jesus walks with us into the unknown, meets us in both joy and loss, and continues to be alive and active in our everyday lives.
April 26 – “Jesus Is Already There”
Scriptures: Matthew 28:20 (I Am With You Always), Hebrews 12:1–2 (The Race of Faith)Paintings: The Caller, Sacred Ordinary, The Great Race
We conclude with a reminder that nothing about our lives is random or unnoticed. Jesus is present in the ordinary, guiding us, calling us forward, and holding all things together—even when we cannot yet see what lies ahead.
An Invitation
We invite you to spend time with these drawings throughout the week.
Look closely. Reflect deeply. Pray honestly. What do you see? What do you feel? Where do you recognize your own story?
As your pastor, I am deeply grateful—for your participation, your openness, and your willingness to share your faith in such a meaningful way. These drawings are a gift to this community, and to me personally.
I also ask that you continue to pray—for one another, for our church, and for me and my family as we walk into what is next. Together, may we continue to reflect and reveal the unselfish love of Christ in all that we do.
