We are walking through a season of collective grief, as our congregation remembers and gives thanks for the lives of two beloved members of our faith family — George O. Howard and Alan Howard — who recently entered the Church Triumphant. While not related by blood, these two men shared a deep love for Jesus, a joy for singing, and a presence that lifted our hearts in worship. Both George and Alan were faithful members of our church choir under the direction of Cindy Curtis, and both leaves behind melodies of faith and love that will continue to echo among us.

George Omar Howard | October 8, 1928 – May 16, 2025 George died peacefully at age 96 in Altoona, Florida. Born in Grantsville, West Virginia, George was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, an educator, a faithful disciple, and a man who lived a life marked by service and grace. His gentle soul, voice of praise, and commitment to our Lord were an example to all. 👉 A Memorial Service for George will be held at Lakeview Terrace Clubhouse on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with military honors. 📌 In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project: https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/default.aspx?tsid=10043

J. Alan Howard June 5, 1947 – May 27, 2025 Alan died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born in Orrington, Maine, Alan was a man of adventure and creativity, with a heart rooted in faith. He found God in the beauty of the outdoors and in the laughter shared with loved ones. A photographer, poet, cartoonist, and scout leader, Alan brought joy wherever he went. 👉 A Celebration of Life for Alan will be held at Heller Hall in Winter Garden, FL on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM. 📌 In lieu of flowers, donations in Alan’s memory may be made to The Friends of Baxter State Park, a place dear to his heart:https://secure.lglforms.com/form.../s/py-TwAhEJ8WudPFBg757mQ
Though they shared a last name, George and Alan shared something even deeper — a love of life, a love of Christ, and a heart for song and community. May we honor them by continuing to sing with joy, serve with humility, and love without reserve.
Let us pray for the Howard families, for Brenda Adams and her family, for Melanie (Our Former Amazing Church Administrator) and all of Alan’s loved ones. May the peace of Christ, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts in this time of sorrow.
Let us give glory to God for lives well lived, faith kept, and songs still ringing in our hearts.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." – 2 Timothy 4:7
