Special Congregational Meeting

The Cottage and Our Church Community

We are excited to share a significant update regarding the future of theCottage at First Presbyterian Church of Eustis. As many of you know, the condition of the Cottage has posed increasing challenges and rising maintenance costs. After careful consideration, the Session, with the assistance of theCottage Task Force, and the oversight of the Presbytery, accepted the proposal of a buyer of $115,000.

On February 19, 2025 during a Special Congregational Meeting, the congregation determined in a majority vote that selling the Cottage was the best course of action. Since then, our Cottage Task Force has worked tirelessly to help the Session find a suitable buyer. The team, led by Chair Richard Paul and supported by Jeanne Thomas, Gary Harvison, Elliot Owens, and Rob Warren, has reviewed several potential offers. While we had about half a dozen interested parties, only one buyer emerged as the right fit for our needs.

After much discussion, the Session has determined that $90,000 of this sale will be directed toward our Legacy Committee Fund, and the remaining funds will go toward our Capital Improvement Fund, after covering all selling costs and expenses.

Your participation in the upcomingCongregational Meeting is crucial. As required by the Presbytery, your votewill be necessary to accept the terms of the sale and approve the sale  of the cottage. The Cottage Task Force worked closely with the Session to ensure that the offer was in the best interest of the church, and we are thrilled to have a proposal that has already received conditional approval from the Presbytery.

We invite you to join us for this important meeting, where we will share the details of the sale, explain the next steps in our church's journey, and discuss the strategic use of the funds for future projects. The sale will close on or before July 31, 2025, and your vote is the final step in bringing this process to completion.

Thank you to the Cottage Task Force and to all those who have worked so diligently to bring us to this point. We look forward to continuing this journey with your support and God's guidance.

The congregational Meeting will be on July 20th, 2025, at 10:40AM in the Sanctuary of our Church. This meeting will be in person only, and no online component will be available.
